La Única, the “coupage” of the best Spanish reds, promises an exceptional IV edition
Made with the finest reds from the 2017-18-19 vintages from its cellars in the three most important Designations of Origin, Pagos del Rey is finalising the details for the launch of the fourth edition of La Única, an exclusive wine that combines the elegance of Rioja wines, the power of Toro and the structure of Ribera del Duero. A different, special and unique wine that represents the essence of the Tempranillo grape and promises to be an exceptional edition this year.

La Única is an international project that originated in Germany and takes place every two or three years, using wines of very different natures that stand out for their uniqueness and high quality. In order to offer this wine, it undergoes five tasting phases to achieve the best possible result. In the initial phase, between 15 and 20 wines are selected from their wineries in La Rioja, Toro and Ribera del Duero, and then the percentages of the chosen wines are played with and successive blends are tasted. The desired result is a very expressive, powerful wine with a lot of structure, but at the same time pleasant.
International Tasting
The success of previous editions and international commercial development have provided the opportunity to hold an international tasting attended by tasters, leading figures from the world of wine and some of Spain’s most influential wine journalists, including José Peñín, María Isabel Mijares and Juan Fernández Cuesta. The tasting, held at the Bodegas Pagos del Rey Ribera del Duero winery, was attended by a total of 32 tasters: 17 people divided into three teams at the headquarters and, in parallel, a video conference connection in three of the most important countries in terms of export development: Germany, England and China.
La Única is a team effort involving the wineries, technical teams, the commercial department and external collaborators, with the clear objective of creating an exclusive and distinctive wine. This represents a highly enriching exchange, allowing the different oenologists and guests to share their production methods.
Label and artist
This fourth edition of La Única will once again feature the exclusive label designed by renowned Argentine artist Mariano Rinaldi Goñi, who designed the original La Única labels. The name itself comes from his idea in the first edition of this very special wine to hand-paint a unique and exclusive label for each of the 600 bottles produced in 2011.

Each year, Rinaldi has designed the labels, carefully choosing the colour, which for this fourth edition will be purple, and will be released in September with a limited run of 15,000 bottles.
